A Toast to Unsung Heroes
Back in the 1920s, brave men left their homes and families in Mendoza city and walked into the mountains for weeks on end, venturing into the unknown. They embarked on a search for excellence; for the land where they hoped to plant vines.
Cruz Alta – Spanish for ‘High Cross’ – represents the pinnacle of a journey undertaken 100 years ago, when a brave band of men trekked over 70 miles through the Uco Valley to plant vines in uncharted Tupungato.
Physically exhausted but guided by their faith, they walked through the mountains until they reached a peak, where they caught their first glimpse of the Uco Valley. Believing their prayers had been answered, the men marked the place as a lodestar for future journeys.
This point is marked by a large white cross, which can be seen as you climb and descend into the Uco Valley. When intrepid travelers see the white Cruz Alta in the distance, they know they are entering one of the world’s greatest wine regions.
Unsung Heroes of Today
Cruz Alta ́s wines are carefully crafted from the Uco Valley’s finest grapes, using cutting-edge technology. But, perhaps most importantly, they are made by a team of dedicated individuals. We like to call them ‘The Unsung Heroes of Today’. Discover their stories below.
